Here are 5 mistakes you can make when choosing a web host for your website.
1) Forget to check Domain Name registrar records
2) Forget to look for an emergency telephone number
Please be extremely careful when doing business with any web company that does not list an emergency telephone number on their website. Why use your credit card or send money to someone without a telephone number? Of course, if you are using a third party for payment, this may not be as important to you. See 1 to check domain registrar records.
3) Forget to look for an Email Address
Make sure the web company email address listed on their website is from their own domain name. See 1 to check domain registrar records.
4) Forget to check for ‘Unlimited Bandwidth’
Mention this phrase and more than one web host will cringe. You should know too! Any web host with a cost of less than $1 per gig of bandwidth per month is not realistic. For example, 10 gigs of transfer per month should be at least $10 per month. Bandwidth is the largest or second most significant cost to any web host except rack space in a data center or computer equipment.
5) Forget to check for ‘Unlimited Disk Space’
Let’s see if this is possible: a disk drive is fixed at x GIG, so once it is used up… it’s not unlimited. Of course, you could add another disk drive, but then the server is limited to how many disk drives it can hold. Yes, another server can be added… However, would this be expected on a web hosting account that costs less than $5 per month with no additional charges to you for extra disk space?
